Lumps felt under the eyes are not necessarily the same thing: Ultrasound-guided localization and removal records for collagen stimulator and fat graft lumps
Dr. Ta-Ju Liu · 10/31/2026
Lumps felt under the eyes are not necessarily the same thing.
This record documents the treatment process for two patients:
Case 1: Tear trough collagen stimulator lump
A lump had been stuck in the tear trough for a full five years after collagen stimulator injections. During this time, steroid injections and enzyme injections were tried, but neither showed improvement. Through ultrasound examination, the lump was located under the orbicularis oculi muscle, with a fibrous capsule wrapped around its outer layer.
Case 2: Lower blepharoplasty fat grafting lump
The patient underwent lower blepharoplasty combined with fat grafting. Two to three months post-procedure, an obvious raised line appeared under the eye, and two rounds of corticosteroid injections showed no improvement. Ultrasound examination revealed it was likewise located beneath the muscular layer, with this time's cause being the autologous fat that had been grafted.
Treatment Approach and Postoperative Recovery
Although the injected materials differed, the treatment principle remained consistent: First, localize the lesion using ultrasound, and then remove it via pinhole extraction through a tiny opening.
Following removal, there will be localized swelling and bruising, which typically gradually subside in about two to three weeks. Tissue healing generally takes about three months to reach the final state, and actual recovery may vary from person to person.
